Your Role

We are searching for a highly motivated bioinformatician to delve deep into metagenomic data. You will develop bioinformatic tools and pipelines as well as support our interdisciplinary team of researchers. You will be working in close collaboration with expedition leads, laboratory biologists and business development:

  • Create cutting edge bioinformatic tools for the discovery of novel, industrially relevant enzymes through sequence based screening

  • Develop, improve and maintain bioinformatic pipelines, tools and databases

  • Perform exploratory data analyses to inform the business development team

  • Use statistical models and machine learning algorithms to deliver insight, recommendations, and solutions

  • Provide analysis and feedback about collected samples, highlighting important results and helping expedition leads to decide where to sample next

Your Qualifications

You will have expertise in the development of metagenomic analysis, protein function prediction and developing bioinformatic tools/workflows, especially as it applies to microbial genomics.

  • PhD degree or a Masters plus 3 years industry experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, Microbial Genomics, Microbial Ecology or a related field

  • Experience in protein function prediction 

  • Experience analyzing microbiome and/or metagenomic studies

  • Strong background in bioinformatics, statistics, machine learning, programming, databases and data analysis

  • Strong programming skills, ideally in Python (including data analysis, visualization and exploration packages, such as numpy, scipy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, seaborn, jupyter-notebook)

  • Experience in collaborative software development using Git.

  • Familiarity with high performance computing (parallel execution, computational pipelines, workload managers…)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a complex and agile environment, and drive results within set timeframes

Desirable (your candidacy is improved if you have experience with one or more of these topics):

  • Familiarity with high performance computing (parallel execution, computational pipelines, workload managers…)

  • Experience with workflow management tools (NextFlow, Snakemake)

  • Knowledge of container technologies (e.g. Docker)

  • Previous experience developing database architectures

  • Proficiency with experimental design

  • Commitment to self-development and to learning new tools, techniques, and skills
